Can I Require a Voter to Select an Option and NOT abstain?

Yes, you can choose to require your voters to select an exact amount, any amount, or no amount by abstaining.

From BALLOT > SETTINGS > SELECTION, ABSTAIN & SKIP RULES tab, you can set this option. The default is to permit abstention & uniform rules across all of the positions & uniform rules across all of the propositions. (NOTE: If you want Per position/issue rules, check out the "   " Help article for detailed instructions.)

  1. Selection, Abstain and Skip Rules: Select Uniform settings if the rules are consistent for each position

  1. POSITION VOTING REQUIREMENTS (UNIFORM) - see image above
    1. Require selecting exactly the number specified.  If  the voter can select 3 candidates, then the voter MUST select 3 candidates for the position.  The required selection can vary per position.
    2. Require selecting at least one candidate or write-in:  If the voter can select 3 candidates, the voter must select/write-in a minimum of 1 or a maximum of 3 but NOT more than 3 candidates in the position.
    3. Permit voters to select abstain from positions. [DEFAULT VALUE]:  An abstain option is selectable for each position.  The voter can abstain by selecting the ABSTAIN OPTION.  If the voter doesn't abstain, the voter must select atleast one caidndate.
    4. SKIP: Permit the VOter to not select any candidates.  The voter doesn't have to select any candidate.  There is not ABSTAIN option.  The skip isn't counted as an ABSTAIN in the totals.

  2. BYLAW VOTING REQUIREMENT (UNIFORM):  Similar settings can be managed for Byalws on the same screen. See image above.
    1. Require a selection for each bylaws amendment: Voter must select 1 option.
    2. Permit voters to abstain from bylaws amendments. [DEFAULT VALUE]:  Voter must select 1 option or can select ABSTAIN.
    3. SKIP: Permit Voters to not select any option.   SKIPS are not included in the abstain counts.

  3. Once you are done selecting settings, click the "Save Settings" button.
